Cynthia Bansak

Dr. Cynthia Bansak is the Charles A. Dana Professor of Economics at St. Lawrence University. Prior to her current position, she was a professor at San Diego State University and an Economist at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. She received a Ph.D. in economics from the University of California at San Diego and a B.A. in economics from Yale University. She considers herself an applied microeconomist with research interests in labor economics, international immigration, remittances, educational attainment, and business cycle. Her work has been published in various academic journals, including the American Economic Review Papers & Proceedings, Applied Economics Letters, China Economic Review, Contemporary Economic Policy, Eastern Economics Journal, Economic Inquiry, Industrial Labor Relations Review, Industrial Relations, International Advances in Economic Research, Journal of Policy Analysis and Management, Review of Economics of the Household, and the Southern Economic Journal. She has also recently co-authored the second edition of her textbook on the Economics of Immigration by Routledge Publishers (2021). At SLU Dr. Bansak offers courses in econometrics, labor economics, immigration, the Fed Challenge, and money and banking. She is the co-editor of the Eastern Economic Journal and an IZA Fellow, a GLO Fellow and a CReAM Research Fellow. She is also a special-term professor at the China Center for Human Capital and Labor Market Research (CHLR), Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE), Beijing, China.
